Rosh Hashanah Wishes 2012

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. It is a two day celebration which begins on first day of the month of Tishrei, the first month of the Jewish calendar.

In Hebrew, Rosh Hashanah means, literally, ”head of the year” or ”first of the year.”

The day also marks the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman in the world.

Rosh Hashanah 2012 Celebrations :

The central observance of Rosh Hashanah is the sounding of the shofar, the ram’s horn. Rosh Hashanah is described in the Torah (First five books of the Jewish Bible) as (Yom Teru’ah, a day of sounding the Shofar.

In the afternoon of the first day of Rosh Hashana, people perform tashlikh, a special prayer said near a body of water (an ocean, river, pond, etc.), in evocation of the verse, “And You shall cast their sins into the depths of the sea.”

During Rosh Hashana Jewish people eat a range of symbolic foods which surely includes “eating piece of apple dipped in honey” to symbolize our desire for a sweet year.
