In a very very rare occurance, this year a Total Solar Eclipse will take place on the most auspicious day of the year i.e., Diwali day.
Yes a Solar Eclipse (Surga Grahan) will take place on November 13, 2012 (Tuesday), the day that will be celebrated as Diwali or Deepavali by people worldwide.
The Eclipse is visible only down under in Australia, New Zealand, South Pacific, South America (in Chile).
As per NASA this total solar eclipse will start at 20:35:08 UT and end at 23:48:24 UT.
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon’s apparent diameter is larger than the Sun, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness.
|13 – 14 November Solar Eclipse Times (UTC)|
|(P1) Partial begin||19:37:58|
|(U1) Total begin||20:35:08|

Note : It is night in India when eclipse occurs and the path of eclipse doesn’t cover in India, i.e., the Solar Eclipse is not visible in India. So in India, one need not worry about Surya Grahan on Diwali.
