Diwali 2016 Muhurat Timings & Chogadiya

Diwali also known as Deepavali is a five day festival which starts on Dhanteras, celebrated on thirteenth lunar day of Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) of the Hindu calendar month Ashwin and ends on Bhaubeej, celebrated on second lunar day of Shukla paksha (bright fortnight) of the Hindu calendar month Kartik.

The five days of Diwali festival are Dhanteras, Kali Chaudas or Narak Chaturdashi, Diwali, Gujarati New Year Day or Bali Pratipada or Govardhan Puja and Bhaubeej.

Diwali 2016 Muhurat Timings & Chogadiya :

Dhanteras is considered an auspicious day for buying precious metals like gold and silver. On this day Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi is worshiped.

Dhanteras holds special significance for the business community due to the customary purchases of precious metals on this day

28th October 2016 – Dhanteras Day Choghadiya:

06:40 to 08:06 hrs IST – Shubh
10:57 to 12:22 hrs IST – Char
12:22 to 13:48 hrs IST – Labh
13:48 to 15:13 hrs IST – Amrit

Abhyang Snan (bath) is performed on Narak Chaturdashi. It is believed that people, who do Abhyang Snan on this day, can avoid going to Narak. Til (i.e. sesame) oil should be used for Ubtna during Abhyang Snan.

Lakshmi Puja is considered to be the most important day of Diwali. On this day people worship Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Ganesh, the God of auspicious beginnings, and then light lamps in the streets and homes to welcome prosperity and well-being.

Bali Pratipada or Govardhan Puja takes place on the next day of Diwali. The day is also celebrated as the first day of the Vikram Samvat calendar, in Gujarat.

In Gujarat, on Labh Pacham, celebrated five days after Diwali, shop owners & most businessmen starts their business for the year, which they had closed since diwali. Before resuming to their work they perform Labh Pacham Puja.
